믿음, 배교인가 아니면 메타노이아인가?
“인간의 이성과 인간에게 본래 내재된 고귀한 자질에 대한 확신”이 무너지면서 전통적인 가치 체계의 해체는 불가피해졌다. 따라서 거대서사(grand narratives)가 단지 사회적 구성물에 불과하다고 인식되고, 이를 대신하여 국지적이고 주관적인 개인의 인식이 자리 잡으면서 배교(apostasy)가 나타난 것은 그리 놀라운 일이 아니었다.
그 이후 생존 본능과 정신적 온전함을 유지하려는 필요는 개인들로 하여금 포스트모더니즘의 냉소주의를 헤쳐 나가도록 이끌었고, 이를 위해 의미를 다시 구성하게 했다. 이는 사실상 ‘해체의 해체’를 의미한다. ‘더 높은 차원의 사고로의 전환’을 문자 그대로 뜻하며 메타모더니즘의 특징인 메타노이아 (Metanoia)가 자리 잡으면서, 사람들은 아이러니한 진정성(ironic sincerity)의 태도로 의미를 다시 세우고자 했다.
기독교 역시 이러한 사회적 격변을 피해 갈 수 없었으며, 보다 광범위한 문화적 변화의 흐름을 그대로 반영했다. 메시지 1은 우리가 이 세대를 어떻게 해석하고, 이 세대가 겪는 시련을 어떻게 극복하며, 우리의 본질을 이루는 토대로서 우리의 믿음을 어떻게 정의해야 하는지를 살펴보고자 한다.
질문
1."내가 예전에는 당연하고 절대적인 정답이라고 믿었지만, 오히려 지금 내 진짜 믿음을 방해하고 있는 '고정관념'이나 '종교적 틀(체계)'은 무엇인가요?"
2."옛 믿음을 의심하고 떠났다가(배교), 혼란을 겪은 뒤 생각을 바꾸어 진심 어린 믿음을 다시 세우려는(메타노이아) 요즘 사람들의 방황과 노력이, 바로 나 자신의 이야기처럼 느껴지나요?"
의로움-열정적인 내어드림인가, 의지력인가?
인간의 이성을 거의 포기한 결과, 사회는 무관심과 허무주의에 빠지게 되었다. 아이러니한 진정성을 받아들인 개인들은 감정과 느낌에 대한 개인적인 자각만을 남긴 채, 자신의 해체를 스스로 재구성하는 일에 노력을 기울리게 되었다.
이러한 인간의 “이성 부재의 실존적 상태”는 철저한 분석력이 결여된 것처럼 보이지만, 거대한 서사에는 필연적으로 이성이 수반된다는 점에서 회심(metanoia)을 보완한다. 인간의 본질적인 특성으로 인해 이러한 상태가 이성의 절대적인 부재를 의미하는 것은 아니며, 오직 능동적이고 분석적인 사고의 부재를 의미한다. 이것은 아마도 성경의 가르침을 더 높은 차원에서 이해하는 데 가장 적절한 접근 방식일 수 있으며, 에스겔이 약속한 새 마음과도 일치한다고 볼 수 있다.
무엇보다 중요한 것은 이러한 실존적 상태가 우리를 성령의 법에 더욱 민감하게 반응하도록 만든다는 것이다. 그 법이 우리 안에서 역사하여 우리가 더욱 그리스도를 닮아가게 하기 때문이다. 메시지 2는 하나님께서 이 세대 가운데 어떻게 주권적으로 역사하셔서 우리 모두를 그리스도의 형상으로 변화시키고 계시는지를 이해하고자 한다.
질문
1."옛날식의 딱딱한 종교적 규칙(거대서사)을 버리는 것과 내 삶을 하나님께 뜨겁게 바치는 것 사이에는 어떤 연결고리(또는 채워져야 할 경험이나 절차)가 빠져 있을까요? 머리를 비우는 것만으로 진짜 헌신이 가능할까요?"
2. 우리가 이 세대 가운데 행하시는 하나님의 역사에 더욱 능동적으로 참여하기 위해서는 무엇을 할 수 있을까요?
Faith, Apostacy or Metanoia?
The deconstruction of traditional value systems was inevitable with the breakdown of “confidence in human reasoning and noble innate qualities.” Apostasy was thus of little surprise as grand narratives were perceived merely as social constructs, replaced by localized, subjective personal awareness.
The instinct for survival and the need to retain sanity pushed individuals to navigate the cynicism of postmodernism by reconstructing—effectively deconstructing the deconstruction. Metanoia, literally meaning a shift to a higher mind and a characteristic of metamodernism, prevailed, seeking to rebuild meaning with an attitude of ironic sincerity.
Christianity was not spared from these social upheavals and mirrored this broader cultural evolution. This message seeks to examine how we should interpret this generation, overcome its trials, and define our faith as the foundation of our essence.
Questions:
1.What is our grand narrative that could have been a stumbling block in our faith?
2.Can we identify with this generation in its experience of apostasy and metanoia?
Righteousness: Passionate Surrender or Will Power?
The near abandonment of human reason left society in apathy and nihilism. Adopting ironic sincerity, left only personal awareness of emotions and feelings, individuals engaged in reconstructing their own deconstruction.
While such a disposition appears to lack rigor, it complements metanoia to the extent that reason necessarily accompanies a grand narrative. Due to innate human qualities, such a state does not mean the absolute absence of reason, but rather the absence of active, analytical reasoning. This is perhaps the optimal approach to attaining a higher level of understanding of biblical teaching, and it is consistent with Ezekiel’s promise of a new heart.
Most importantly, such an existential state renders us more receptive to the Law of the Spirit, allowing it to work within us so that we become more like Christ. This message seeks to understand how God’s sovereignty is working in this generation to transform us all into the image of Christ.

2.What can we do to become more proactively involved in God's work in this generation?
